I thought u would just dab a little glue on a ring like this http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H201664FY and just slip on the half drilled bead, but someone told me that that is unprofessional. How else would I get it on there?

Whoever told you that it was unprofessional probably is NOT a professional goldsmith or a jeweler. You can either use epoxy glue or use super gel glue on the post. Just dont get it in the water.
