I want to make an interchangeable watch band. Where can I get good beads to make it?

Every hobby and sewing shop that I’ve ever been in has beads in it. There are also many places that specialize in JUST beads. How much do you want to pay for your beads? I have beads that cost less than a dollar for about two cups (dry measure) worth. I have beads that cost $20 each (but I got a discount because I bought a complete string of them).

If you’re new to beading, then I suggest just going to a hobby store and looking around at the bead section. You can get elastic beading thread, and possibly even a beading kit. You might also like a bead loom, which enables you to sort of weave a band of seed beads.

Even Amazon and eBay sell beads and beading supply, and of course there are all sorts of other websites that sell beads and supplies, either as part of their line of hobbies or because they specialize in the beading market. Some companies sell their beads to hobby stores, AND they sell online. I sometimes buy beads from The Beadery in Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, and while they are not the best beads on the market, they are frequently very attractive and affordable. I’ve never ordered anything from them online, though.

I HAVE ordered from Silver Crow Creations. The woman who owns it seems to be very nice, and she has an eclectic assortment of craft items. Look in "Embellishments and Ornaments" for beads and charms. Her selection varies, and she tries to find things that are uncommon. I’ve always been very happy with my items from her.

If you buy beads that are already strung, you should know that you need to restring them. The string is just a temporary measure, it’s not intended to hold up under wear. You don’t want your new watch band or necklace to fall apart!

    Beware, beading is addictive!
